An App Empowering Women with Metabolic Health Disorders

Project Type: End-to-end app design

Role: Product Designer

Industry: Health-tech

Tools: Figma

Duration: Q1 2025

For Balm.ai, I worked alongside the founder to develop a metabolic health app designed specifically for women—reshaping how users engage with their health through technology. With my background in clinical nursing and product design, I approached the project with a deep understanding of both the physiological and emotional aspects of women’s metabolic health.

To craft an experience that truly resonated with users, I first conducted an in-depth analysis of competing platforms, dissecting their user flows from onboarding to engagement. I examined how these apps structured their sign-up processes, retained users, and built trust through personalized interactions. What became clear was that the most effective platforms didn’t just provide information—they connected with users at a human level and most of all develop community.

A key insight from my research was the profound impact of community in driving meaningful health outcomes. Women navigating metabolic disorders often face isolation, misinformation, and a lack of tailored support. To address this, I prioritized designing features that fostered connection—whether through peer support groups, expert-led discussions/consultations, or shared progress tracking. By integrating these elements seamlessly into the user experience, the app became more than just a tool; it evolved into a space where users felt heard, motivated, and empowered. Building a strong community not only increased engagement but also reinforced the app’s core mission: to make metabolic health a collective journey rather than a solitary struggle.

With this insight, I worked to design an onboarding experience that felt less like a standard sign-up flow and more like a guided conversation. By integrating behavioral psychology and user research, I ensured that women felt seen and understood from the moment they entered the app. This meant balancing data-driven personalization with intuitive UI, allowing users to easily navigate health insights while feeling supported in their wellness journey.

Over the course of the project, my team and I refined each touchpoint—blending clinical accuracy with an inviting, user-friendly interface. The result was a platform that not only educated but empowered women to take control of their metabolic health, reinforcing Balm.ai’s mission to revolutionize personalized healthcare.
